RMA Celebrates LGBTQ Families at ‘Night at the Pier’ Gala

As proud supporters of LGBTQ families, RMA doctors and staff were eager to put on their dancing shoes earlier this month for Night at the Pier, an annual fundraising gala organized by the Family Equality Council (FEC), the nation’s premier advocacy organization for LGBTQ family-building.

The RMA network – which consists of fertility clinics in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida and California – partnered with the FEC earlier this year to bring the group’s LGBTQ healthcare training program, Open Door, to staff across the country. The program, which includes courses like ‘LGBTQ 101,’ ‘Trans Fertility Considerations,’ and ‘Building an Inclusive Practice,’ will allow RMA to provide an even higher level of care to the LGBTQ community as they embark on one of the most meaningful journeys of their lives.

Held at Chelsea Piers in New York City, Night at the Pier honored the vital work of the FEC, which strives to advance equality for LGBTQ families in the legal system, the health care system and society as a whole.

A group of RMA doctors and staff walked the red carpet at the gala, including RMA of New Jersey’s Dr. Tom Molinaro, Dr. Shefali Shastri, Dr. Maria Costantini and Dr. Catha Fischer, as well as RMA of Philadelphia’s Dr. Jackie Gutmann, Dr. Allison Lange, and Chief Operating Officer Bruce Goldstein.

Here’s what a few RMA attendees had to say about the event and the FEC:

“What an amazing night filled with such emotional stories. It really reminds us that every single person deserves the right to have a family and how much children enrich our lives.”

-Dr. Tom Molinaro, RMA of New Jersey

“We are so proud to support the Family Equality Council in fulfilling their mission to help build families. The FEC celebrated their successes at the 2019 Spring Gala and honored key people in the field who have helped to move forward their vision. It was truly an inspirational evening, to meet and hear from individuals who have made it their life mission to help others build their families regardless of gender, race or sexual orientation. It was extremely moving to meet the families who had benefitted from all these collaborative efforts. RMANJ is honored to work with the FEC in their ongoing efforts.”

-Dr. Shefali Shastri, RMA of New Jersey

“I have had the honor and privilege of helping many members of the LGBTQ+ community build families. Over the years, many things have changed for the better – the science supporting family-building has improved, my patients have the opportunity to marry, and insurance coverage for family-building in the LGBTQ+ community has increased. But there is much more work to be done and I am grateful to the Family Equality Council for providing invaluable support and resources to achieve ‘legal and lived equality’ for LGBTQ+ families.”

-Dr. Jackie Gutmann, RMA of Philadelphia

“There is no more noble mission – helping people build families – than the mission undertaken by the Family Equality Council. The stories and pictures shared at Night at the Pier were beyond inspirational. Each one of the parents we were introduced to through stories, pictures and in person is living proof that every LGBTQ person should have the unfettered right and opportunity to build a loving family, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other characteristic.”

-Bruce Goldstein, RMA of Philadelphia
