We commend California and Governor Newsom for enabling a significant expansion of fertility care this week. By signing SB 729 into law, more than nine million Californians – a group larger than the individual populations of 38 states – will gain insurance coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of infertility. This is an incredible milestone on the path to ensuring all Americans can access treatment for an infertility diagnosis.

The Widespread Impact of Infertility

Infertility affects 1 in 6 Americans and cuts across all social and economic divides. For patients and families struggling with infertility, including same-sex couples and unpartnered individuals, assisted reproductive technologies like in vitro fertilization (IVF) may be their only option to get pregnant.
