Our providers are people too
Dr. Leo Doherty was inspired to pursue medicine at a very young age. Growing up in the suburbs of Boston where his father was a pharmacist, he looked forward to visiting his father at work. “I felt like I was saving lives by helping my father discard expired medications or performing other small tasks around the pharmacy,” he remembers. “I knew then that I wanted to devote my life to helping people.”
Dr. Doherty is a board certified Reproductive Endocrinologist Infertility specialist and Obstetrician and Gynecologist. He earned his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School and completed his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut. During his residency, Dr. Doherty trained extensively in robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgery, receiving several honors and distinctions for his work. He then went on to complete a Fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Yale School of Medicine.
Throughout his training, Dr. Doherty pursued his interests in clinical and basic research publishing several articles in peer-reviewed journals including Fertility and Sterility, The FASEB Journal, and the American Journal Physiology Endocrinology Metabolism. He has authored chapters in various textbooks including Operative Gynecological Laparoscopy and Hysteroscopy and Case Studies in Assisted Reproduction. A nationally invited speaker, Dr. Doherty travels and lectures across the United States on endometrial receptivity and the effect of uterine fibroids on the endometrium.
Having two young children reminds Dr. Doherty what a gift being a parent is. “Experiencing the emotional roller coaster of trying to conceive and early pregnancy complications firsthand, I can relate to the challenges that are faced by my patients,” he shares. “I know how rewarding becoming a parent is and it motivates me to help them achieve their goal.”
Dr. Doherty’s areas of expertise include improving infertility diagnosis and treatment, particularly in the areas of recurrent pregnancy loss, uterine fibroids, embryo and oocyte cryopreservation, uterine anomalies, and minimally invasive endoscopic and robotic-assisted surgeries.
