RMA Philadelphia was a proud sponsor of the Philadelphia Trans Wellness Conference held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center on July 25 – 27. The conference consisted of three days of workshops and activities focused on the health and well-being of trans, gender variant and gender non-conforming (T/GV/ GNC) people and their communities.
Among the allies of the trans community was RMA Philadelphia’s Dr. Jackie Gutmann, who joined a multidisciplinary panel of leaders in the fields of psychology, healthcare and law to provide education and empowerment to those considering LGBT family building.
Dr. Gutmann’s panel addressed the three critical components involved in family formation for trans people:
- The medical process, including fertility preservation for those transitioning
- Psychological considerations related to treatment
- The legal framework around trans fertility and parenthood
Dr. Gutmann was also invited to speak at the professional track component of the conference. In this capacity she was able to inform health care providers about reproductive options for T, GV and GNC individuals. This session reviewed the impact of hormone therapy and gender-affirming surgery on fertility. She discussed fertility preservation prior to medical transitioning and receiving gender affirming surgery as well as family building options after gender affirming medical and surgical treatment.
Dr. Gutmann has been a leader in helping trans,* gender variant and gender non-conforming parents and hopeful parents achieve their dreams of family, and does so in a sensitive, compassionate and professional manner.
