Dr. Katherine Green is excited to be welcoming patients as part of the expert team at Reproductive Medicine Associates of Southern California.
Dr. Green’s path to becoming a fertility specialist seemed to develop very naturally. She gained her first exposure to the field of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) as a medical student at the Medical College of Wisconsin, in Milwaukee.
“I had always been fascinated by endocrinology, specifically pathways governing reproduction. I was also drawn to the field of women’s health and the opportunity to advocate for the reproductive well-being of patients,” Dr. Green said.
“The field of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility allowed me to combine these two passions to help patients build their families. I knew immediately that this was the specialty for me.”
Dr. Green conducted numerous research projects pertaining to fertility and reproduction during her OB/GYN residency at William Beaumont Hospital in Michigan, presenting the findings nationally. She went on to complete her fellowship in REI at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD. There, she gained extensive experience in treating complex fertility issues, as the NIH serves as a worldwide referral center for some of the most challenging reproductive cases.
During her fellowship, Dr. Green collaborated with Reproductive Medicine Associates of New Jersey (RMANJ) on innovative research. She was awarded a research grant from the Foundation for Embryonic Competence to pursue this research, which focused on identifying markers of egg and embryo quality. With the expansion of IVI-RMA into Southern California, she immediately knew that she wanted to be a part of the group’s first practice on the West Coast.
“The IVI-RMA network is exceptional because we combine patient-focused care with ground-breaking research, which translates into better outcomes for our patients,” Dr. Green said.
As part of IVI-RMA Global, Dr. Green is proud to offer the most innovative and effective treatment plans for her patients.
“It’s the best of both worlds because we are able to offer personalized clinical care out of our Southern California office that is based on cutting-edge research and years of clinical experience that only a global network of experts can provide.”
Dr. Green treats the full spectrum of fertility issues, from ovulatory dysfunction and diminished ovarian reserve to endometriosis and assistance with third party reproduction. She also has a particular interest in providing options for patients interested in egg freezing for medical reasons or for those who are not yet ready to start a family.
“It is important to recognize that the optimal time to have children biologically may not be the right time personally or professionally,” Dr. Green said. “With advances in fertility preservation techniques, we’re now able to offer patients more flexibility in family planning.”
During her free time, you’ll usually find Dr. Green outdoors. She is an avid runner and enjoys the mental and physical challenges of marathon racing. Her favorite race is the famous Boston Marathon.
“It seems like the entire city of Boston comes out to cheer on the runners along the 26.2 mile course. It creates this amazing energy that really helps support the runners to the finish,” Dr. Green said.
While Boston has a special place in her heart, she would like to race each of the Abbot World Marathon Majors, six of the most renowned marathon races in the world.
“Running is such a great way to explore new cities and countries,” Dr. Green said.
True to her roots as a native of Green Bay, WI and alumnus of the University of Notre Dame, she also enjoys watching football and is a loyal Packers and Fighting Irish fan. Dr. Green grew up sailing on Lake Michigan and values spending time on the water. She and her husband, Gearin, continue to enjoy the peacefulness of sailing whenever possible.
As with running, Dr. Green approaches caring for her patients with passion and dedication. She understands the importance of personalized fertility treatment and is committed to partnering with patients to provide successful fertility care as part of the RMA SoCal team.
