Do I Need IVF?

IVF isn’t always the first step, but it may be the most effective one.

IVF is often recommended for:

  • Low sperm count or male factor infertility
  • Blocked or damaged fallopian tubes
  • Endometriosis
  • Ovulation disorders
  • Unexplained infertility
  • Genetic concerns

A fertility consultation at our New Jersey IVF clinic can help determine whether IVF is the right option.

What Is IVF?

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a fertility treatment where eggs are fertilized with sperm in a specialized laboratory. A healthy embryo is then transferred into the uterus to achieve pregnancy.

IVF allows doctors to:

  • Closely monitor embryo development
  • Improve fertilization and implantation rates
  • Offer genetic testing when appropriate

At our IVF clinic in New Jersey, IVF is performed using the latest technology and evidence-based protocols for optimal results.

The IVF Process

The IVF process may seem complicated at first glance, but it is relatively straightforward, with six simple steps.

Ovarian Stimulation

During an IVF cycle, daily injections of ovarian stimulation medications are administered over 8-12 days to encourage the development of multiple eggs in the ovaries.

Egg Retrieval

Once the eggs have matured, doctors retrieve the eggs from the ovaries. This quick process takes about 5-10 minutes at RMA and is painless because you'll be under anesthesia. Most women can go home about an hour later.

Extended Embryo Culture

In an IVF lab, embryos grow for up to seven days until they become blastocysts, which means they have about 200 cells. Keeping the embryos in the lab for 5-7 days improves their chances of attaching to the womb, leading to a successful pregnancy.

Path 31821@2x

Embryo Biopsy

If a patient decides to have genetic testing, a small sample is carefully removed from the embryo to analyze its DNA. This procedure is intricate and requires an expert embryologist.

Preimplantation Genetic Testing

If a patient decides to have genetic testing, a small sample is carefully removed from the embryo to analyze its DNA. This procedure is intricate and requires an expert embryologist.

Path 31821@2x

Frozen Embryo Transfer

The embryo is frozen until the uterus is ready for implantation. Frozen embryo transfers are preferred over fresh transfers due to an observed increase in implantation rates and improved obstetrical outcomes. Once the embryo is transferred into the woman's uterus the IVF cycle is complete.

Giovanna, a New York teacher, always wanted to be a mom. And it’s fair to say quite literally nothing would stop her. Not the tumor doctors found on her left ovary that led to the removal of that ovary and the accompanying fallopian tube. “When things were getting crazy and I was lost and not sure why certain things didn’t work out,” she says, “Dr. Rybak called me himself. What an amazing man, I owe him so much.” Together, they decided Giovanna would undergo an IVF cycle. The decision paid off – today Giovanna is the beaming mother of two little boys.

Kimberly and Darryl had been trying to get pregnant for about a year without success. Since Darryl had cancer as a child, the couple figured the treatment may have affected his fertility, and they were right. So they went to RMA New Jersey and Dr. Kathleen Hong, who guided the couple through an IVF cycle. “I love RMA and I love Dr. Hong,” Kimberly says. “I mean she gave me my son, she gave me my life, and that is something I can never repay her for.”
