We started our journey with Dr. Jeffery Russell in April of 2016. Through diagnostics, I was diagnosed with having clogged fallopian tubes. I had laparoscopic surgery at Christiana Hospital to open my fallopian tubes. Once the healing was complete, I had two separate unsuccessful attempts at Intrauterine insemination (IUI). Once it was determined that this process was ineffective, Dr. Russell introduced us to the idea of In vitro fertilization (IVF). In September of 2016, my husband and I started the process of IVF. Once my eggs were fertilized, we had the embryos genetically tested for any abnormalities. Our first IVF transfer occurred in late October (or early November) of 2016. We lost heartbeat for this pregnancy at six (6) weeks.

Simply saying “thank you” to the whole DIRM team will never feel like enough… After 4 years of surgeries and testing we were finally able to have our miracle baby! I was diagnosed with uterine fibroids. While undergoing surgery, it was discovered that I didn’t have a right ovary and would need both tubes removed due to blockages. In April of 2023, I did an egg retrieval with Dr. Kovalevsky and his team. They were all so supportive and kind during the process, especially when I had to call the office during the weekends or after hours. After I had a final surgery in May 2023 —and had 16 fibroids removed— I finally gained the ability to safely carry a baby.

After six heartbreaking, failed IUI cycles and thousands of dollars, we took a break. In spring 2016, we found Dr. Russell. At our first meeting, he asked what we wanted. When we shared our wish, he said, “Let’s make it happen!” Thrilled it was possible — and affordable — we began our journey with DIRM.

Each patient at our Delaware offices is paired with one of our financial coordinators, who will be your concierge in all things related to affording care. They will call your insurance, provide financial options, and inform you of any discount programs available.
On June 30, 2018, the DE Governor signed Senate Bill 139 into law. SB139 is a historic bill that requires health insurance offered in DE to provide infertility treatment coverage. Unfortunately, companies that are self-insured are exempt from the bill; however, many employers are offering infertility benefits even when not required by law.
