Reproductive Medicine Associates (RMA) in Basking Ridge, New Jersey, is proud to welcome Nirali Shah Jain, MD, to the team. Dr. Jain’s medical training was driven by a clear aspiration to specialize in reproductive endocrinology. During her undergraduate years, she pursued a neurobiology major to build her scientific foundation in understanding the human neural network. During this time, she completed several bench research projects using nanotechnology to understand better early pathologic changes in the human brain associated with aging. She then pursued medical school to bridge her research background with translational medicine and patient care.

While Dr. Jain greatly enjoys the many facets of medicine that comprise REI, she is also just as dedicated to advancing the field. Today, she focuses her research on the use of letrozole in assisted reproductive technology (ART), oncologic fertility preservation, and third-party reproduction, and she is a reviewer for the Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics and a junior reviewer for Fertility & Sterility. She also received specialized training in areas such as reproductive medical genetics and embryology, and she completed the Intensive Training in Research Statistics, Ethics, and Protocol Informatics and Design (INTREPID).

Dr. Jain’s journey to becoming an REI provider began at Northwestern University, where she earned an undergraduate degree in neurobiology with a minor in dance. She was accepted into the Northwestern University Pre-Medical Scholars Program (NUPSP) in her junior year, which guaranteed admission to Feinberg School of Medicine upon graduation. After medical school, she completed her residency in OBGYN at Weill Cornell/NYP, where she served as co-Chief Resident in her fourth year. During her residency, she also became certified in the fundamentals of laparoscopic surgery (FLS) and earned the Society of Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgeons (SLS) Outstanding MIS Resident Award. She later completed her fellowship in REI at NYU Langone Medical Center.

During her training and beyond, Dr. Jain has also found that personally connecting with patients has been just as important as honing her professional expertise. Interacting with prospective parents and delving into their family planning aspirations inspires her to help them achieve their unique visions. She loves talking to patients during early morning ultrasounds, guiding them through their fertility journeys in real time; performing operations that could help increase a patient’s chance of success; standing by a patient’s side as they experience a successful embryo transfer and pregnancy following in vitro fertilization (IVF); and offering fertility preservation services for patients planning to undergo cancer treatment.

She especially enjoys the unique relationship she has the privilege of forming with each patient. To Dr. Jain, infertility medicine is more than just offering standardized treatment options – it involves learning each person’s unique story, understanding their goals, and supporting them through the highs and lows. She appreciates that she gets to be more than a physician – she gets to be a trusted advisor and cheerleader.

That is why joining RMA was the perfect fit for Dr. Jain. She wanted to join a practice that offers state-of-the-art medical care, and she found everyone at RMA to be highly motivated to provide the latest evidence-based practices and to constantly evolve to meet the gold standard of infertility care. She enjoys the collaborative environment that RMA cultivates and appreciates that each provider genuinely prioritizes each patient’s well-being.

Dr. Jain also draws on her personal experience of supporting friends and family members through infertility. She felt honored to be a part of her loved ones’ journeys, and she found that navigating the challenges, especially when outcomes don’t align with hopes, also influenced her perspective of infertility, shaping her role as a support system tempered with realism.

To be that supportive provider, Dr. Jain connects with the emotional concerns of patients by being a good listener. She identifies the tools they may need to make the process easier, and she understands that might not always be medical advice, treatment, or decision-making. Dr. Jain’s goal as a provider is to offer her patients the most effective toolbox to process and navigate their journey, using the method that works best for them.

When getting to know Dr. Jain, patients may be delighted to learn that she is a dancer by hobby and by training, with formal certificates in Indian classical, modern dance and ballet. She and her husband are also avid hikers and have gone on hiking trips on five of the seven continents, with the hopes of expanding their travels to South America and Antarctica soon. During her medical training, Dr. Jain traveled to several different countries and completed medical rotations to learn more about the practice of medicine outside of Western culture. She found the experience humbling from a cultural and career standpoint, and she hopes to continue this learning journey as a fertility care provider.
