How Important Are IVF Success Rates When Choosing Your Fertility Clinic?

Written By: Melissa C. Yih, MD, FACOG

Have you been trying to conceive a baby with no success? Chances are that you may be going through an infertility workup with a reproductive endocrinologist. A typical workup includes a semen analysis to make sure the male’s sperm is healthy, an evaluation of a woman’s egg supply through blood work, an ultrasound, and lastly, a female anatomy evaluation with an x-ray of the uterus and fallopian tubes called a hysterosalpingogram or HSG. After completing these series of tests, patients usually will meet with their physician to decide on a personalized treatment plan.

Treatment options may include in vitro fertilization (IVF) where a woman’s egg is extracted, fertilized with sperm and then the fertilized egg, also known as an embryo, is transferred back into the female’s uterus.

In this day and age of technology, patients have the tools to educate themselves about clinics that have the best chances of getting them pregnant with IVF. It would be disconcerting if they did not “do their homework” when seeking medical treatment that is consider to be elective. The Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) collects data from all participating fertility clinics and makes this data public on the website CDC.org website.

This is an invaluable tool for patients since it allows them to rank the best clinics with the highest pregnancy rates. Why is this important? As a patient, you should be looking for a clinic that has the best chance of getting you pregnant so that you do not waste your time, money and effort pursuing treatment at an inferior clinic.

RMANJ has consistently ranked above the national average for over a decade with respect to pregnancy rates per IVF cycle attempted with one of the lowest risks for having a high order multiple pregnancy (i.e. triplets, quadruplets…). Currently, we have an *72.4% delivery rate for women under the age of 35. RMANJ’s goal is to quickly and effectively get patients pregnant so that they can move on to building their families. Our success is attributed to being at the forefront of research in the area of assisted reproductive technology. Additionally, we are lucky to have highly qualified physicians and nurses caring for patients, the ability to provide personalized care for each patient as well as having a superior embryology, andrology and research support staff within the practice.

So before you pick an infertility clinic to take care of you make sure that you look at their ability to successfully take care of their patients. If you would like to make an appointment with our clinic please visit our website RMANJ.com or call (973) 656-2089. We would be happy to answer any questions that you may have.
