How Important Are IVF Success Rates When Choosing Your Fertility Clinic?

Have you been trying to conceive a baby with no success? Chances are that you may be going through an infertility workup with a reproductive endocrinologist. A typical workup includes a semen analysis to make sure the male’s sperm is healthy, an evaluation of a woman’s egg supply through blood work, an ultrasound, and lastly, a female anatomy evaluation with an x-ray of the uterus and fallopian tubes called a hysterosalpingogram or HSG. After completing these series of tests, patients usually will meet with their physician to decide on a personalized treatment plan.

Treatment options may include in vitro fertilization (IVF) where a woman’s egg is extracted, fertilized with sperm and then the fertilized egg, also known as an embryo, is transferred back into the female’s uterus.

In this day and age of technology, patients have the tools to educate themselves about clinics that have the best chances of getting them pregnant with IVF. It would be disconcerting if they did not “do their homework” when seeking medical treatment that is consider to be elective. The Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) collects data from all participating fertility clinics and makes this data public on the website CDC.org website.

This is an invaluable tool for patients since it allows them to rank the best clinics with the highest pregnancy rates. Why is this important? As a patient, you should be looking for a clinic that has the best chance of getting you pregnant so that you do not waste your time, money and effort pursuing treatment at an inferior clinic.
