Orlando couple Lacey and Reed were young and healthy, so why were they still not pregnant after six months of trying? Kimberly and Darryl had been trying to get pregnant for about a year without success. Jen was almost 36 when she met the love of her life. Right after the two married, they began trying for a family – and within two months, Jen was pregnant. But the happiness was short-lived; Jen would suffer an ectopic pregnancy. After pursuing fertility treatments at several clinics, she would experience a series of pregnancy losses that left her defeated. Still, Jen and her husband decided to press on, but this time with RMA New Jersey’s Dr. Eli Rybak, who could carry out treatment in line with the Jewish faith. We started our journey with Dr. Jeffery Russell in April of 2016. Through diagnostics, I was diagnosed with having clogged fallopian tubes. I had laparoscopic surgery at Christiana Hospital to open my fallopian tubes. Once the healing was complete, I had two separate unsuccessful attempts at Intrauterine insemination (IUI). Once it was determined that this process was ineffective, Dr. Russell introduced us to the idea of In vitro fertilization (IVF). In September of 2016, my husband and I started the process of IVF. Once my eggs were fertilized, we had the embryos genetically tested for any abnormalities. Our first IVF transfer occurred in late October (or early November) of 2016. We lost heartbeat for this pregnancy at six (6) weeks.

Simply saying “thank you” to the whole DIRM team will never feel like enough… After 4 years of surgeries and testing we were finally able to have our miracle baby! I was diagnosed with uterine fibroids. While undergoing surgery, it was discovered that I didn’t have a right ovary and would need both tubes removed due to blockages. In April of 2023, I did an egg retrieval with Dr. Kovalevsky and his team. They were all so supportive and kind during the process, especially when I had to call the office during the weekends or after hours. After I had a final surgery in May 2023 —and had 16 fibroids removed— I finally gained the ability to safely carry a baby.

For Aimee and her husband, who pursued IVF with Dr. Martin Freedman at RMA Philadelphia, choosing to start their family with donor eggs was not an easy one. But Dr. Freedman, who had earned the couple’s trust, explained that most mosaic embryos will fail to implant or lead to an ongoing pregnancy, so the couple was better off with donor eggs. “And we had a complete 180,” Aimee says. They pursued donor eggs, and now, Aimee is a mother to a one-and-a-half-year-old son. Pursuing donor eggs was “the best decision we ever could have made,” she says.
